Blogging has been around for a few years now. Most people use blogs to record their thoughts and lives, while the select few use them as a free way to make a fortune.

One guy who uses this to his advantage is Rob Benwell. In 2006 he dished the dirt on the tips and tricks to making a fortune using blogging. But as time passes the old systems become obsolete and new techniques are required. This is where his brand new, fresh off the press Blogging to the Bank 2010 system comes into play.

A couple weeks ago I noticed I was suddenly making a lot less sales than I was used too. Now I wasn’t quite sure what was causing this – especially since this is normally one of the best times of my year for selling. I went ahead and remade my opt-in pages and rewrote my entire sales funnel and split tested. The results? Absolutely no difference, it was converting at under 5%… that’s atrocious!

After spending some time talking to others and trying to get to the bottom of this I realized why I wasn’t making sales – or rather, why I wasn’t getting credit for the sales that I actually WAS making. Apparently there is a new problem called link hijacking that is becoming more and more prevalent with affiliate marketing. Basically this means that no matter how good my sales funnel was, or how many people it convinced to buy a product, I wouldn’t get any sales.

I guess I should quickly explain how link hijacking works. There are two different ways with the second being more common and more easily avoidable – if you know how.

The first way is that when you direct someone to a product, they change the affiliate ID to their own to credit themselves with the sell. This is hard to stop because they know what they’re doing and are most likely an affiliate themselves. This is just something you have to get used to, but this shouldn’t affected your sales nearly as much as the next way.

The other thing that can cause you to not get credit for a sale is spyware. More notably a new type of spyware that is now invading the internet that will automatically change affiliate ID’s to those of the spyware’s creators. That means that the more work you put into making sells, the more sells you are making – for the creator of that spyware!

One way to mostly fix the first problem and completely fix the second problem is through the process of link cloaking. This means that you hide the url to the website with your own redirect cloak so that spyware can’t change the affiliate ID and users can’t find it to change it themselves.

You may have heard of services such as TinyURL or Bit.LY, these are great services for shortening URLs, but they shouldn’t be used for link cloaking because they often break affiliate cookies (which means you won’t get credit for sales). Instead you should find one of the link cloaks available specifically for affiliate marketing.

In some circumstances, you may need to increase your traffic immediately or to boost it in order to spread a new product or an offer or or simply to implement your viral marketing. Then go on, like that you will save your money.

The second way is to email to your list. You must understand the sale process. In a nutshell, visitors  are surfing they fall on your site, but they probably won’ t come back except if you offer them an incentive, or newsletter, something that will bring them back:
You can send a promotional email, twice a month or once
Send valuable information between the promotional offer.

The last tip for immediate traffic is Joint Venture.
You have to get other websites to send email to their list, place your link on their website, and you will pay them only when they process a sale.
Pay them 50% or more.
And make the sale easy  for them, prepare for them  the subject and body of the emails, prepare the affiliate link they will put on their websites, and any other material you can use.
And who knows, you will maybe find some good friends out there.

They are calling him the million dollar man. Jason Calacanis recently revealed in his blog that he is on track to earn a million dollars from AdSense over the year ahead.

And if that number doesn’t wake you up and have you sitting on the edge of your seat, consider for a moment that he reached this level in less than a year. His company only started using AdSense in September 2004.

Calacanis runs Weblogs Inc., a network dedicated to creating trade weblogs across niche industries. And he’s quickly proven that AdSense is a credible advertising partner.

As their network has grown, so has their AdSense revenue. In January 2005 they earned an average of $580 per day. In March it was $737. In May it was $1,585. One day in July, just before he made the blog entry referred to above, they earned $2,335. Remember that is just for one day.  If they can take that daily average to $2,740 they’ll be earning a rate of $1 million for a year. And Calacanis predicts that reaching daily earnings of $3,000 or even $5,000 is quite achievable.

That’s quite an achievement. Keep in mind that Calacanis has 103 bloggers on the payroll and nine staffers. Even so, many webmasters would give an arm or a leg to have even a third of that.

Google’s AdSense has been revolutionary. It has become firmly established as the darling of the online advertising industry. Although rumors are heard of major competitors launching a similar service, AdSense’s premier position seems secure for now.

In essence, AdSense has made it possible for almost anyone with a web site or blog to earn some revenue from advertising, without having to employ sales people or spend precious time searching for advertisers. 

AdSense works like this. Webmasters sign up for an account in just a few minutes. They receive a small snippet of code to include on their web pages. Google will then automatically serve advertisements that are relevant to the content on the webmaster’s pages. When someone visits the webmaster’s site and clicks on one of Google’s AdSense advertisements, the webmaster earns a fee. Advertisers can pay anywhere from five cents to a hundred dollars per click, and the webmaster receives a percentage of that fee.

Many webmasters are content with earning five to ten dollars from AdSense to cover the cost of web hosting. But many, unsurprising, have higher ambitions. At a popular WebmasterWorld forum, participants share tips and encouragement on reaching a goal of $300 per day from AdSense. So it is no wonder that Calacanis created quite a buzz when he made his million dollar blog entry.

Google have proven once again that they excel at designing innovative Internet services. If you are in the web industry and have not yet used AdSense, then perhaps you should try it out. Or if you are already using it, perhaps Calacanis’ impressive results will encourage you to track the performance of your AdSense units more closely, fine tune their positions and formats, and take your earnings to a new level.

Everyone’s an expert at something, so use your innovative and unique skill set to help other Twitter users.

This is where you should begin to approach monetisation. When your audience is behind you, you can take them anywhere. Slowly introduce affiliate links and promotional material into your tweets, but don’t overdo it. The aim is to ease your followers into your promotions, not to brute force them into clicking on your links. Treat your followers right and you’ll end up with a massive permission marketing resource.

#4 – When all else fails, learn from it and change your plan.
There are more variables to Twitter promotion than this article could possibly cover, and that’s a good thing. When there are so many variables within a system, the possibility to dominate a small niche and make massive money through it is endless. However, due to the massive amounts of variables in Twitter, many entrepreneurs and marketers don’t make it the first time. Here’s what to do if you’re one of them.

Learn from your failure. Take it in stride, make notes of what went wrong, and start again. Normally people run off to a URL shortening service or something and get a different URL so it can’t be edited, but I would NOT recommend that you do that. More than likely you’ll pick one of the many services that will break affiliate cookies and you won’t get the sell anyways. More recently though there have been a few link cloaking services that are directly related to affiliate marketing – these are the ones that you want.

The best ones of these will be hosted on your own site and allow you to change the links, etc. You probably shouldn’t try and make your own redirect script (unless you’re a programmer) – you might end up not having affiliate cookies still.
